Finnish Government Collapses Under Weight of 'Free' Healthcare

Courtney Kirchoff
March 22, 2019

Paging Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The Finnish government has collapsed due to the oppressive weight of "free" universal healthcare. The aging population, with not enough young people to pay into the system, combined with the government's unwillingness to address the behemoth problem of paying for everyone's health, led to the government's collapse:

Prime Minister Juha Sipila and the rest of the cabinet resigned after the governing coalition failed to pass reforms in parliament to the country's regional government and health services, the Wall Street Journal reports. Finland faces an aging population, with around 26 percent of its citizens expected to be over 65 by the year 2030, an increase of 5 percent from today.

The Prime Minister, as I understand it from the article, tried fixing this problem by slimming down the bloated bureaucracy of healthcare, but that meant government shills would be out of jobs and power. So that plan was obviously dead on arrival. If there's one thing I know about government lackeys, it's what selfish assholes most of them are. I'm not even going to censor the word.

Sipila's reforms "intended to remove power from the 295 municipalities that currently oversee health and social care, and place responsibility within a leaner, more efficient system of 18 elected regional authorities," according to the Journal. The prime minister also wanted patients to be able to choose from a range of public and private providers.

But like in America, whenever someone tries to make a government system more efficient, the side which relies on the bloated bureaucracy threw tantrums. And, like in America, probably told the population, especially the aging population, that cuts meant everyone would die. If not outright die, die slowly while eating nothing but cat food.

Finland is part of the idyllic Nordic socialism the left points to while harp music fills their heads. But Finland's news won't change a gosh darn thing in America. Democrats like Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders will harp on about the need for free healthcare despite the heavy cost of "free" healthcare. Because politicians don't actually care about giving you healthcare. They don't even care about your health. They care about getting elected, staying in power, and controlling your life. All of which they can do by promising free crap the lowest and dumbest among us who would rather not pay for anything themselves.

Isn't socialism grand?
