Well, it seems that our old friends in Detroit are finally getting their act together. Or something. See, Detroit is hosting a "gun buyback." In case you're unfamiliar, it's a process in which a citizenry partakes when they feel compelled to trade in their firearms for something less valuable. Mostly because they hate themselves. Who needs self defense? Wouldn't you rather have a gift card to Applebee's?

The Wayne County sheriff’s office says the “Cash for Caliber” event starts at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Mathis Community Center.

A $50 gift card will be exchanged for each gun with no questions asked. A maximum of three guns can be turned in per person.

The sheriff’s office says a goal of the program is to give people a way to surrender weapons not wanted in or around homes where children can get their hands on them.

Sheriff’s personnel will secure the weapons which later will be fashioned into jewelry by the Caliber Collection and sold. A portion of the proceeds will be used to hold future gun buyback programs.

Now, clearly, nobody is being forced to hand over their guns. No rights are being violated since it's a voluntary surrender. So no harm done, right?

The issue therein lies with the nature of the event itself. Firstly, they're implying that guns are inherently unsafe. Offering a free gun safety class would have been a good solution for most. But the people who run this gig? Their goal is to create a gun-free state. You may recognize similar states by their more commonly used title, "sitting ducks." Australia wanted that too. Didn't work out too hot for them (see Obama Praises Australia's Gun Ban. The Actual Results...). Much to their surprise, they found that it's considerably easier to stop crime when you have a gun. As opposed to, say... that gift card from Applebee's. Though their two for $20 is a steal. Either way someone's being put away for robbery.

By the way, Australia also had a gun buyback - except it was mandatory - AKA confiscation. This? Not mandatory, but intended to bring about the same result. Australia did it through force, Detroit is doing it through guilt and manipulation. So we'll call it "soft confiscation."

The worst part is the turdbombs orchestrating this entire thing claim to want to keep people safe. So why are they asking you (politely) to give up your most effective means of protection? According to them, you don't need to be armed because the police are. Except, no, that makes no sense. Especially when leftist, gun control advocates are also the people who are saying the police can't be trusted since "they're racist and corrupt." Obviously, even according to their own rhetoric, safety isn't their top priority.

Leftists want more control, but they keep trying to paint it as safety. They're lying liars. We take issue with that. Also, Detroit is the worst. Seven out of ten murders go completely unsolved and it has the highest violent crime rate in the country.
