CNN lashes out, claims Trump lowering the flags is an overreaction to Charlie Kirk's assassination

CNN implies Trump Admin is overreacting to the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
"They ordered flags to be flown at half mast. He is going to honor Charlie Kirk posthumously with the Medal of Freedom. This is a VERY different response to what we've seen in other cases like this." pic.twitter.com/ybNBDFj5YM

College campuses were once considered beacons of free speech. However, that is no longer the case, as demonstrated by the tragic murder of Charlie Kirk at an American university over his political beliefs. While such events are rare, history shows that political leaders in the United States have been assassinated on multiple occasions.
Just to name a few: Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, and Robert F. Kennedy. These individuals were politicians. What sets the Kirk tragedy apart, however, is that he was not a politician—yet he wielded influence beyond what most politicians could hope to achieve.
Nonetheless, the very least the White House could do was order the flags to be flown at half-staff, which they did, alongside Trump’s announcement that he will be honoring Kirk posthumously with the Medal of Freedom. However, Alayna Treene considers this an overreaction to the situation.
Firstly, I am pretty sure she pronounced posthumously wrong, but that is neither here nor there.
Question: What would have been a more appropriate way for the White House to respond? After all, political thought leaders have been honored posthumously in the past. Martin Luther King Jr., for example, comes to mind. That being said, this tragedy is still very unique, and it’s unclear what case she believes is even remotely comparable besides that one.
It’s also comical that she calls this an “overreaction,” when I would bet a lot of money she would never dare describe the response to George Floyd’s death that way. Anyone with even a fraction of a brain knows that calling it an overreaction would actually be an understatement. The Left tried to burn this country down and turned a lifelong career criminal into a martyr, and the fact that CNN believes the response to Kirk's murder is an overreaction tells you everything you need to know about the state of legacy media.
