I’m one of the first to admit President Trump validated all of the stupid accusations with his moral equivalency at his presser this week. But everyone mocking his statement that next people will demand we take down George Washington?
A bronze statue of George Washington on horseback stands at the corner of 51st and King Drive, at the northwest entrance to Washington Park.
Bishop James Dukes, pastor of Liberation Christian Center, said he wants the statue gone, and he wants George Washington’s name removed from the park.
“When I see that, I see a person who fought for the liberties, and I see people that fought for the justice and freedom of white America, because at that moment, we were still chattel slavery, and was three-fifths of humans,” he said. “Some people out here ask me, say ‘Well, you know, he taught his slaves to read.’ That’s almost sad; the equivalent of someone who kidnaps you, that you gave them something to eat.”
America has a messy history. We all know that. The reason some people protest Confederate statues is because the Confederacy wasn’t a part of America at the time. They left the country (see Dear Confederate Flag Apologists: Yes, It Is Anti-American). And yes, they lost the war. That doesn’t mean you have to agree with leftists organizations like CAIR. But there’s at least a logical thought process. Why have monuments of the losing side?
But using this pastors thought process, do we have to tear down the White House now because that was built by slaves?
I would think an African-American family living there for eight years is more of a powerful statement than any shameless pandering over the outrage du joir. Because you know you can get on the news.
