Let this be reason five million why we should not adopt the Canadian healthcare model.
Eight days ago, shots were fired in broad daylight at a home near 170 Street and 32 Avenue in Surrey, and a young worker was struck in the face by a bullet.

Yikes. That does not look good.
Over a week ago, a young man in Canada was shot in the head at a home in South Surrey, B.C. More than eight days have passed, and the man has yet to have the bullet removed.
According to Gurpreet S. Sahota, editor of Charhdi Kala Punjabi newspaper, “Instead of receiving timely treatment, he was discharged from the hospital and sent on a stressful loop of medical appointments. Along with the psychological trauma, he continues to suffer intense physical pain.”
I’m not sure why this man was sent home, but common sense would tell you that if the hospital believed it to be a life-threatening emergency, they would have done something about it. I’m no doctor, nor do I work in healthcare, but I like to think I have at least a bit of “common sense.” But since common sense isn’t so common these days, this is the mess our northern neighbors are living in.
While many reading this know that the wait time for medical care in Canada is now 30 weeks—long enough to grow a preterm baby in the womb—you would think they would make an exception for gunshot wounds to the head. Horrifyingly, that is not the case.
According to the Fraser Institute
In 2024, physicians across Canada reported a median wait time of 30.0 weeks between a referral from a GP and receipt of treatment. Up from 27.7 in 2023.
This is 222% longer than the 9.3 week wait Canadian patients could expect in 1993.
After seeing a specialist, Canadian patients waited 6.3 weeks longer than what physicians consider to be clinically reasonable (8.6 weeks).
I know, you know, and your grandma knows that the American healthcare system is far from perfect. But hey, at least we have doctors ready to perform emergency medical care—especially when it comes to bullets in the face. If you can’t afford it, that doesn’t matter. However, in Canada’s pursuit to make healthcare “great and free,” they have destroyed the system. Weird. I wonder why that is.
As of writing this, the man still likely has a bullet in his face. That does not seem to be much of a concern for officials. Weird. I wonder why that is. At this point, his best bet is starting a GoFundMe and getting care in America, because unfortunately, Canada’s “universal” healthcare does not seem very universal at all.
Tragic. Just utterly tragic. Make sure to keep this man in your prayers.
