While it is not easy to criticize Islam in today’s culture, it is even more controversial to do so in Canada. Comedian Ben Bankas joins today’s show.
When Crowder asked Bankas about his insight regarding the threat to free speech in comedy, he acknowledged how Canada is in desperate need of comedy and that there is this “underlying conservatism in Canada,” which makes the “appetite for what he is doing” so much stronger.
Bankas recently had some shows that were canceled because of a joke about Renée Good.
Laugh Camp Comedy Club in St. Paul pulled the plug on Bankas’ scheduled January 30–February 1 performances after backlash erupted over jokes he made about Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old Minneapolis mother of three who was killed during an encounter with federal immigration authorities earlier this month.
In the clip, which has racked up more than 8.9 million views as of February 3, Bankas said, "Her last name was Good. That’s what I said after they shot her," and also referred to Good’s wife as a "dog." He also called Good "r-----ded."
“People could not believe that I said that. People were stealing my joke, trying to harass me, emailing me saying your show is canceled, good,” Bankas said.
In a warning to Americans regarding how bad Canada is and how bad things can get, Bankas said that the Oscars are a representation of what Canada has become and how the left wants the culture at the Oscars to be the mainstream.
He used the example of how in America, you can still make a movie, but it won't be allowed in the Oscars if you don't meet certain DEI and leftist requirements. However, he said in Canada, the left wants to make it so you cannot even make the movie to begin with.
“They are still fighting for it,” Bankas said.
