The United Kindgom’s healthcare service, with the help of a judge, has sentenced baby Alfie Evans to die. Despite the government of Italy sending a medical helicopter to transport the baby to Italy for medical treatment. As of now, Alfie Evans has survived 20 or so hours off life support. The hospital is reportedly refusing to give him food or water. In essense, Alfie is a prisoner.
But wait, it gets worse. Justice Hayden, the judge who’s sentenced this baby to death, blamed the parent’s attitude:
Justice Hayden, speaking to lawyers representing Alfie’s parents and Alder Hey Hospital, said: “If there were a more constructive attitude from the family might other options become possible, away from Alder Hey?”
And Italy’s Healthcare Chief has slammed the decisions by UK courts to treat Alfie the way that they have. The President of the Italian National Institute of Health lambasted the UK High Court’s decision yesterday on Alfie Evans’ that resulted it the children’s hospital being allowed to remove life support over Alfie’s parents’ objections.
Now we’re hearing baby Alfie is being given mouth-to-mouth from his parents as the hospital refuses to treat him with oxygen.
Alfie's family are performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation in an attempt to give the baby oxygen. Alfie's father Tom said that his son's fingers were starting to turn blue. https://t.co/tMZcBEEInq

If you’re a frequent visitor to this site, you know we have a ban on “THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS” kinds of posts. We don’t do trigger warnings except to mock trigger warnings.
The case of Alfie Evans, like Charlie Gard before him, is the definition of real outrage. Not “OMG, THIS PROFESSOR TWEETED MEAN THINGS!” What we have here is a first world government sentencing a child to death. The second child we know of. I already theorized why the UK is so determined to kill sick children in this opinion piece. But what the UK is doing now is beyond outrageous, it’s dangerously evil. They’re even setting a precedent: have a baby we, the UK government-run healthcare service, deems “terminal” and we’ll kill it. And force you to watch.
In other words:
Let me get this straight. Alfie Evans is breathing on his own, requires no life support, is no longer being treated by the hospital, has Italian citizenship, and has been offered care in Rome. But the UK judge is forbidding him from going. Why?

The United States healthcare system isn’t perfect. But my God, what the UK is doing to its sick children is beyond the pale. Not allowing parents to take their own child, with their own money, out of the country to get that child care? Guarding the baby’s hospital room with police to ensure no one makes a move to save the child. Pure evil. I’m sorry I can’t offer a cleverer quip at the moment.
I don’t know how the people of the United Kingdom can stand up against this. You’re being ruled like you’re nothing but serfs. Peasants. You live at the behest of the government. Who wants to bet a royal baby would be taken to get the best care at the drop of a bowler cap? Nothing but the best for the children of William and Kate.
But you private citizens. You have no rights to protect yourselves or the lives of even your own children. Your government disarms you. Your government limits what you can and cannot say. Now it’s killing your children and forcing you to watch. And with no means of defense or ways of speaking out, I haven’t a clue how you oppose your own government.
