One of the most common excuses the left uses to defend illegal immigration is the claim that it’s no different than a DUI or setting off fireworks—minor misdemeanors not worthy of prosecution. However, I’m not sure what version of reality María Elena Salinas is living in, because most sensible people don’t defend criminal behavior by comparing it to driving under the influence. Not only does that comparison make no sense, but it also ignores the fact that both are crimes—and both have resulted in countless lost lives.
So, while we might be tempted to say “nice try” to Salinas, the truth is we can’t—because her argument was a weak attempt to support the idea that “no human is illegal.” This is exactly why Ben Ferguson, whose family was impacted by a drunk driver, said what needed to be said.
UNHINGED: María Elena Salinas compares crossing the border illegally to getting a DUI, saying their both misdemeanors. @benfergusonshow calls out her nonsense immediately:

So, I just looked up the definition of “crime,” and sure enough, it’s defined as “an action or omission that constitutes an offense that may be prosecuted by the state and is punishable by law.” So, if the shoe fits—it definitely fits!
I will never understand how the left believes that calling illegal immigration a “misdemeanor” somehow implies that federal immigration laws permit open borders. There’s no logic in that argument—and it’s clear they’re just parroting talking points they heard someone say once, without giving it real thought.
Did she really think that made her sound informed? What does she have to say to the victims—or the families of victims—who have been harmed or even killed by illegal immigrants or drunk drivers?
I can only imagine her response: “I’m sorry that happened to you, but you do realize that’s not an actual crime, right?”
Like, WHAT?!?
That being said, the left really needs to come up with a better argument because this one is definitely not serving what they thought it would serve.
