Clearly, the justice system is not justicing when they release “masked bandits” like this.
A liquor store in Virginia found a raccoon passed out drunk on the bathroom floor after he was suspected of ransacking the place and being heavy-handed with his pours.
According to ABC News:
According to the Hanover County Animal Protection and Shelter, authorities found the "masked bandit" collapsed in the bathroom of the Ashland ABC Store Saturday morning, where the furry burglar had ransacked shelves and drank multiple types of alcohol.
In a social media post, officials said they took the "very intoxicated" raccoon back to the shelter to sober up before releasing him back into the wild.
There was zero accountability here. Zero. What makes them think the raccoon won’t just pull a stunt like this again when they provide zero repercussions for his bad behavior? Incredible, yet deeply predictable during these times.
"After a few hours of sleep and zero signs of injury (other than maybe a hangover and poor life choices), he was safely released back to the wild, hopefully having learned that breaking and entering is not the answer," the Facebook post read.
According to data, “statistics indicate that individuals with prior DUI convictions are more likely to reoffend than those without such a record.” So, while the raccoon was not arrested behind the wheel, we can almost be certain this will not be his first and last time. This is why it’s deeply important to hold these individuals accountable when they do these crimes.
While it’s great that no one was harmed, including the raccoon, it’s about time officials take these sorts of crimes seriously. Enough is enough. While they would like to give the suspect the benefit of the doubt in this case and hope a stern finger-pointing may or may not prevent him from making this “bad life choice” again, I am not so optimistic. It’s about time officials start enforcing a tough-on-crime attitude, or else things like this will keep happening. I don’t know. That’s just my two cents. What do you think?
