CLAIMS AND REBUTTALS
CLAIM NO. 1
CLAIM: Banning SNAP/EBT would immediately plunge millions of low-income children into hunger and force people to steal
TRUTH: Are people who refuse to work and participate in society FORCED to steal? Because these are the people who would be affected by my proposed policies.
CLAIM NO. 2
CLAIM: SNAP/EBT stimulates the economy by injecting billions in grocery spending, supporting farmers, retailers, and jobs
SOCRATIC: if that were true, would it mean that we should take money from workers in the country and inject it into any industry the government deems more valuable or important? Should they do that with banks? How about taking workers money to give to health insurance companies?
TRUTH:
CLAIM NO. 3
CLAIM: SNAP/EBT reduces poverty rates preventing crime
TRUTH: SNAP promotes poverty rates

- Encourages people to stay below this income to keep getting free food

CLAIM: Veterans and Seniors need SNAP/EBT
TRUTH: There are already supplementary programs for these individuals and no veteran truly in need would be disqualified for receiving future benefits, like the Veteran Food Assistance Program. Source: DVNF
CLAIM NO. 5
CLAIM: SNAP/EBT eligibility already includes strict work requirements for able-bodied adults
TRUTH: requirements are not strict because federal law allows for numerous waivers and loopholes.
- States can, and many do, receive waivers that exempt able-bodied adults without dependents (ABAWDs) from work requirements.
- Trump tightening work requirements and reporting USDA
- 18-54 years old, 80hrs/month
CLAIM NO. 6
CLAIM: Cancelling SNAP/EBT would overwhelm private charities and food banks
