California Teacher Filmed Calling Our Military "Dumb S**ts..."
In 1992, we were talking about the Democrat primaries in US Government class. After class, purely out of curiosity on my part, I asked my teacher who she liked best out of the candidates. The question made her look very uncomfortable. As a teacher, she wasn't supposed to be sharing her political opinion. I always think of that when I read stories like this. Somewhere along the line "The classroom isn't the place for my political opinions" has turned into "Our military are dumb s**ts."
Yes, the following incident takes place in California. Shocking, I know (see California Proposes Bill Punishing Waitstaff for Giving Customers Plastic Straws and California Wants to Treat Coffee like Cigarettes, Labeling Coffee “Cancerous”).
A Southern California high school teacher was caught on camera denigrating the intelligence of people serving in the US military. In the videos, which were stealthily recorded in class by a student at El Rancho High in Pico Rivera, California, history teacher Gregory Salcido, 49, can be heard making a variety of unflattering remarks about service people, at one point calling them the 'lowest of the low.'
Although the videos - shot from under a desk on January 19 - do not show Salcido's face, El Rancho High officials confirmed to The Orange County Register that the person speaking in the video is in fact Salcido and that the video was shot in a school classroom.
In one of the clips, Salcido can be heard saying, 'Think about the people who you know are over there. Your freakin' stupid Uncle Louie or whatever. They're dumb s***ts. They're not like high-level thinkers. They're not academic people. They're not intellectual people.'
He then says that overseas service people are 'the freakin’ lowest of our low. Not morally - I'm not saying they make bad moral decisions - they're not talented people.'

El Rancho High officials confirmed that there is an investigation. The teacher is apparently out of town.
Look, teachers are supposed to encourage thought provoking conversations. We get it. But this seems less like a thought provoking discussion and more like a, oh I don't know, bitchfest. Notice how the teacher fails to provide any actual statistics or proof of his trifling anti-military tirade. Not very educational.
Exit question for you guys to chat about in the comments, because I'm the resident oldhead at LwC and have been out of school for 25 years now. Are teachers just newly unhinged in the era of Trump? Or have they been like this for years now? And it's just getting exposed by students with their smartphones?
