Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Attacks Capitalism as 'Irredeemable'
Another day, another prime example of grade-A dumbassery from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. During her appearance at South-by-Southwest, she gave her interpretation of capitalism, declaring it to be irredeemable.
As you'd expect, her definition is completely wrong:
It's hard to have these conversations I think as a society because we all have different ideas of what, just in the public imagination, there are different ideas of what does capitalism mean, what does socialism mean, et cetera. But, for me, when I think about what those definitions are, capitalism is to me is an ideology of capital.
Uh, all economic systems are "ideologies of capital." What separates them is how that capital is distributed and who does the distributing. She's already off to a bad start.
The most important thing is the concentration of capital and it means we seek and prioritize profit and the accumulation of money above all else and we seek it at any human and environmental cost. That is what that means and, to me, that ideology is not sustainable and cannot be redeemed.
Yes folks, this is an economics major talking here.
Seeing as Alex doesn't have the first clue about capitalism, I'll let my homeboy Webster educate her.
Capitalism: an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free market.
Nowhere in that definition does it say "accumulation of money above all else." Capitalism simply means we're free to exchange goods and services without Comrade Orthodontist-Corvair holding our hand. If we turn a profit in the exchange, we get to keep it and use it as we see fit. I fail to see what's so irredeemable about that.
Socialism is the opposite. Alex here will tell the exchangers of goods what they can exchange. How to do it. Who they can do it with. The best part, if by some miracle the exchange yields a profit, she'll take it. For "safekeeping."
Lefties are so quick to bash capitalism, but they keep proving they don't even know what it is. The best thing we can all do for commie douchenuggets like Cortez is hook them up with a dictionary and an economics textbook. Though, I'm not sure even that would help 'ol Crazy Eyes.
While we're talking about her:
