When your race is close, and you have a yuge number of your own party crossing the aisle to support your opponent, the last thing you want is an undercover video where your field organizer admits out loud what everyone assumes is already true. It's a rough day to be Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed. "Abdul" for short. He says his parents named him after Paula Abdul, even though he was born before Paula Abdul was thing.
But this isn't about her. This is about a different Abdul. Abdoul Beckwith, who up until this James O'Keefe video, was field organizer for Abdulrahman's Senate campaign.
“You know, he [Abdul El-Sayed] has people from overseas that donate to him...No it is not allowed."
“He [Abdul El Sayed] can't just say, you know, no, I don't support Hamas, you know, I reject all of them, because he's going to lose the people that brought him up in the first place.”
BREAKING NEWS: Abdul El-Sayed Campaign Official Reveals El-Sayed Receives Overseas Donations, Admits Foreign Contributions Are Illegal Under Federal Law, Warns Denouncing Hamas Could Cost Support“You know, he [Abdul El-Sayed] has people from overseas that donate to him...No it is not allowed."“He [Abdul El Sayed] can't just say, you know, no, I don't support Hamas, you know, I reject all of them, because he's going to lose the people that brought him up in the first place.”@AbdulElSayed @MikeRogersForMI

We've seen enough O'Keefe videos to know what the response from the campaign is. The person doesn't know what he's talking about, and he's been fired, and the campaign categorically denies, and...

Here's the thing. My man wasn't out on a date with a honeypot or O'Keefe wearing glasses, where one would overembellish in order to get lucky at some point in the evening. He was - at least from the look of the video - sitting in an office setting casually discussing campaign issues as if they were common knowledge throughout the campaign.
Possibly even in an El-Sayed campaign office. As if everyone knows that he takes foreign donations and doesn't want to upset Hamas supporters. But shhh, don't tell anyone.
It must be a millennial or zoomer thing where, after years of oversharing on social media, they simply lack the ability to keep things to themselves. I say this as a GenXer (the last generation that didn't suck) and a former member of the consultant class...you NEVER talk about family business. You never know who is listening. Or in these modern times, who is wearing Meta glasses.
As an aside, it's been fascinating to see how undercover videos have been utilized in campaigns this cycle. Whether or not they had the intended effect, we'll find out in two weeks.
