Will Smith's 'Fresh Prince' Aunt Blasts Him Over Oscar Boycott
For the second year in a row, the liberals who vote in the Oscars only voted for white people. Some are calling for a boycott, like Jada Pinkett-Smith, upset because her husband Will Smith got snubbed this year.
Other's aren't having it, like Janet Hubert, aka Aunt Viv, aka Will Smith's aunt from "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air."
"There’s a lot of s--- going on in the world that you all don’t seem to recognize. People are dying. Our boys are being shot left and right. People are starving. People are trying to pay bills. And you’re talking about some motherf---ing actors and Oscars. It just ain’t that deep,” she added.Hubert also criticized Smith’s wife for asking other black actors and actresses to “jeopardize their career and their standing,” especially after the Pinkett-Smith family built their entire fortune in Hollywood.
“I find it ironic that somebody who has made their living, and made millions and millions of dollars from the very people you’re talking about boycotting just because you didn’t get a nomination, just because you didn’t win,” said Hubert. “That is not the way life works, baby ... You ain’t Barack and Michelle Obama. Ya’ll need to get over yourselves.”
Are the Oscars too white? That's a question better left to the people of Hollywood, who lecture the rest of the country about diversity and socialism while having their own little meritocracy. Hollywood likes to hire the best people to make the most money at the box office. Ask Matt Damon for his thoughts on the matter (read Matt Damon says 'Merit' is More Important than Race. Left Explodes!).
I have a suggestion for Hollywood. If you want more "diverse" actors to win awards, maybe you should get away from casting "diverse" people for race-centric movies. You know the kind of movies I'm talking about. The movie where the entire plot revolves around racism. Because here's a little truth, you ready for it? America is getting tired of the lecture that we're all a bunch of racists. So maybe it you want to be color-blind, you should be color-blind. Make the movies and its actors about the storyline, not about how horrible white people are, then casting the "diverse" actors as the poor, put upon, powerless victims. Give your "diverse" actors diverse roles, don't typecast them or relegate them to the victims of racism roles. That, to me, is a little racist.
Here's the funny thing in all of this. Two years ago? This is what leftists were saying about the Oscars:
Maybe it has nothing to do with race and is more like what John Singleton said, "You win some, you lose some."
Ah leftists. The ever-constant source of entertainment.
What do you think? Should the Oscar nominations be subject to affirmative action? Tweet me at @Courtneyscoffs.
