People wondered what Nikki Haley was going to do after resigning from the Trump Administration (see Nikki Haley Resigns as UN Ambassador. Her Reasons… and Four Reactions on Nikki Haley’s Resignation). Turns out stand up comedy might be in her future. The ambassador spoke at the Al Smith Dinner, where traditionally the top elected officials turn their speech into open mic night at Yuk Yuk’s in Poughkeepsie.
Haley did ten minutes covering everyone from Donald Trump to Mayor DeBlasio to ever herself. But her crack at Elizabeth Warren was my favorite.
“Last year, you went with Paul Ryan, who’s a Boy Scout. That’s fine, but a little boring. So this year, you wanted to spice things up again, right? I get it — you wanted an Indian woman, but Elizabeth Warren failed her DNA test.”
Actually, this part was my favorite. Because I know her pain.
“People asked me if it was tough being an Indian in rural South Carolina. Actually, it prepared me for being a Republican in New York.”
Some of the jokes may have bombed at the liberal NYC audience. Because it was a liberal NYC audience.
But should Nikki take her act out on the road in real America – say places like Iowa and New Hampshire – it’ll totally play.
