WATCH: Bernie Sanders Approves of Letting the Boston Marathon Bomber Vote
We’re breaking protocol here. Technically, the only time we should discuss the Boston Marathon Bomber is to announce his successful execution. Alas, Bernie Sanders has started a debate about whether he should have the right to vote. Because none of the Democrats running for president in 2020 seem interested in actually winning and becoming president in 2020.
Oh, Bernie. Apparently, you didn't go far enough last week. Because on CNN Monday night, he got specific.
"Yes, even for terrible people, because once you start chipping away and you say, 'Well, that guy committed a terrible crime, not going to let him vote. Well, that person did that. Not going to let that person vote,' you're running down a slippery slope," Sanders said when asked by a student if sex offenders, the Boston Marathon bomber, terrorists and murderers should have voting rights. He added: "So I believe people commit crimes and they paid the price and they have the right to vote. I believe even if they're in jail they're paying their price to society but that should not take away their inherent American right to participate in our democracy."
Here's the thing, if the debate was about low-level drug users earning the right to vote, that would be one thing, certainly a discussion worth having. Maybe people shouldn't lose their right to vote over a mistake or a lapse in judgment. Fair.
But that's not enough for today's Democrat Party. Thanks to Bernie, the debate is going to be about terrorists and sex offenders voting from prison. Which now every candidate running for president is going to have to comment on thanks to Bernie moving the goal posts to Pelican Bay. Judging from Kamala Harris, none of them will have the courage to say no.
So this is your Democrat Party. The score so far: killing babies, open borders, higher taxes, and felons like sex offenders and murderers voting from prison. Oh goodie!
