Trump Caves to Gun Control Advocates. Calls for a Total Ban on Bump Stocks.

Corey Stallings
February 20, 2018

Well, we knew it wouldn't be too long before Trump screwed the pooch. In the wake of being labelled a mass-murder-enabling meanypants for not banning all the guns, Trump is taking a few steps back. He's decided to offer up bump-fire stocks as a sacrifice to the ballistically illiterate. I kid you not:

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he has signed a memo directing the Justice Department to propose regulations to “ban all devices” like the rapid-fire bump stocks involved in last year’s Las Vegas massacre.

Seeking to show action days after a deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida, Trump spoke during a White House ceremony recognizing bravery by the nation’s public safety officers.

“We must move past clichés and tired debates and focus on evidence based solutions and security measures that actually work,” Trump said.

Trump has also indicated he is open to a limited strengthening of federal background checks on gun purchases.

Way to backtrack on your Second Amendment support there, Donny.

I'll tell you right now bump-fire stocks have almost no practical utility. Even though they increase a rifle's rate of fire, they're wildly inaccurate. Nevertheless, that's not grounds for dropping the ban hammer. Besides, all you really need to bump-fire a rifle is your thumb and a belt loop. A ban would solve nothing.

Perhaps Trump fails to realize the left's anti-gunnery won't stop here. Once we give them the bump stocks, they'll want the "high-capacity" magazines. Because, after all, "who really needs a 30-magazine caliber clip with baby-seeking bullets." Then, it's "who needs a scary black gun when a wooden one works just fine." Before you know it, you need a psych evaluation and a 30-day waiting period just to score a slingshot.

Maybe giving up the stocks and strengthening background checks is some sort of Trumpian strategy. Though, how he could ever spin this for a win is beyond me. Methinks caving on guns will not bode well for Trump come reelection time. Take notice apricot man, you're poking the wrong bear on this one.

The Second Amendment is pretty clear:
