TLC Publicly Shames "Counting On" Star. Because of His 'Transphobic' Comments...
TLC, the former "Learning Channel," has as much to do with learning as MTV has to do with music or Comedy Central has to do with comedy. It's really a network of cheesy "reality" shows, and two of them wound up in a feud. In one corner we have the Christian based "Counting On." In the other, the transgender based "I am Jazz."
Guess who the network is siding with?
TLC has officially severed its ties with former “Counting On” star Derick Dillard after he repeatedly made negative comments about one of the network’s other stars, Jazz Jennings.
Apparently Dillard and Jennings have been feuding for a while. Well, not so much feuding. More so Dillard saying that boys are boys and girls are girls. Then Jennings claiming that s/he was being cyber bullied. But the comment that put things over the top?
Yep, such was the comment that got him cut from the show. It also warranted a dramatic statement from TLC because of course.
This is a lot like the statements Owen Benjamin caught heat for (see Comedian Owen Benjamin Canceled at Brea Improv. For his Conservative Beliefs? and Joe Rogan and Owen Benjamin Blast Parents Putting Transgender Kids on Hormones). Dillard is expressing legitimate concern at people using a young child for fame, and questioning the ability of small children to determine their “gender."
To make such comments is considered strictly transphobic. Be gone, ye bastion of hate!
