It’s rarely lately for celebrities to speak about politics and sound rational, so thank you, LeVar Burton. There’s drama behind, not only national acts boycotting the Trump Inauguration, but also school marching bands. The Star Trek and Reading Rainbow star thinks that’s silly…
LeVar Burton knows a lot of people — including his own wife — are protesting Donald Trump’s inauguration, but he’s still backing a black college’s decision to participate.
The “Reading Rainbow” host says the Talladega College Marching Band would be passing up a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity if it backed out amid all the backlash it’s getting for taking the gig.
In fact, LeVar explained why it would almost be un-American of the band NOT to perform.
Wait, so you can oppose the man who is President while still respecting the office of the presidency? The honor of playing our country’s Presidential Inauguration is more important than what specific person got elected?
Plus, as we’ve said before (see CNN Throws Race Against Trump and NFL Legend Jim Brown Has None of It and Stephen A. Smith Drop Kicks White Liberal Complaining About Jim Brown’s Trump Meeting) no one really knows what kind of a president Donald Trump is going to be. Sure, Trump’s said some things. But he’s also said some other things that completely contradict those things. Sometimes even in the same speech. Wet your finger, raise it aloft. Which way is Trump blowing today?
Boycotting an opportunity because of what you saw on the news, or heard from your favorite celebrity, or wannabe celebrity as is more likely the case (or to be fair Trump’s Twitter account) is silly. It takes you out of the conversation before you even get to start the conversation. Plus marching in a Presidential Inauguration? Dang cool.
People need to calm down until after January 20th.
