NEW POLL: Americans Feel LESS Free Now vs. Ten Years Ago. The Details...

Kacie Burnett
July 01, 2017

America didn't escape eight years of Obama unscathed. During his 8 year reign, the left waged war on every form of freedom unlucky enough to enter their sights (see Obama to UN: America Should 'Give Up Freedom.' Yes, Really). Now it appears Americans are feeling the consequences of all that anti-libertyness, according to a recent Gallup poll:

A newly released Gallup poll ... found that although 91 percent of Americans were satisfied with the freedom in their lives in 2006, only 75 percent feel the same way today.

Furthermore, while the US ranked 11th worldwide (out of 118 countries) in the 2006 Gallup poll, it came in 71st (among 139 countries) in the current poll.

[Gallup's managing partner] cited a separate poll, the 2017 Index of Economic Freedom, which also found a significant drop in America's standing in the world since 2016. That poll is mostly based on government regulation - another major factor people usually consider when thinking about freedom.

When people think loss of freedom, "government regulations" usually come to mind (see FREEDOM OF CHOICE? Obamacare Now FORCES Churches to Fund Abortions). Governments bend industries to their will by way of over-regulation. See also the auto industry, food, healthcare. Or all of Europe.

The US decline is unique, as such results are not happening in other wealthy democracies. For example, Denmark, Finland and Canada were all tied for first place in 2006, with 96 percent of their populations satisfied with their freedom. Those figures are "virtually unchanged" in the recent poll.

The freedom hating left often points to data like this when arguing for more government control. They insist since Europe is happy with non-freedoms, we should be too. Except Europe never had much freedom in the first place. It's the main reason we fled the stink hole. Portly cowards who preferred "safety" over liberty stayed behind and there they remain. Perfectly content with their scones and regulations. They'll take a dash of government overreach with their Earl Grey, please and thanks.

Unlike Europe and unlike the left, for many Americans, freedom takes precedence over collectivist feel-goodery. We care not for these socialist, globalist, crap-ridden ways. Read Dear Wimps Willing to Exchange Liberty for 'Safety'...

While disappointing at first, these numbers are also refreshing. Europe is content where they are. Which is a flaming pit of politically correct hell. We don't want to be like Europe. The more discontent Americans get, the more we demand change. Just peep the latest election results. The left keeps losing because Americans are fed up with the last decade of non-freedom.

Here's hoping we harness that energy and keep making actual progress. Not to be confused with liberal "progress."
