NYC Passes New Law, It's Now Discrimination To Judge Fat People For Being Fat
In America, obesity is not treated as a health emergency. In fact, it is seen as quite the opposite. Obesity is often a manifestation of gluttony. One reason that this sin is so shameful is that it is the hardest to hide. Any notion of shame is considered to be bad because it may subsequently turn into a hindrance to degenerate lifestyles, at least according to most progressive causes.
Gluttony is an excessive indulgence of eating. It also subsequently disregards moderation, which arguably makes it a deception of reasoning. Like most progressive causes, the Body Positivity movement is essentially a form of groupthink where the sole purpose is to validate self-destructive behavior.
Fat people don't deserve to be punished. But they also don’t deserve special treatment. However, according to lawmakers in New York City, they do.
A New York City ordinance banning discrimination in employment, and housing based on height and weight has officially gone into effect.
It would make much more sense if the Body Positivity movement was based on uncontrollable circumstances, such as a veteran who had his leg amputated. However, that is not the case, as it is intended for obese people to justify their unhealthy lifestyles while they call anybody who tries to suggest otherwise as fatphobic.
Weight is believed to be a controllable physical characteristic. Race is not a characteristic that you can choose and is thus insignificant when it comes to the workload. Subsequently, weight and physical fitness often do. Such as for a firefighter.
On May 26 Mayor Eric Adams amended the local Human Rights law by adding weight and height to the list of protected characteristics.
Essentially, this turns fat people into a “victim” class. Subsequently, I am sure we can all start expecting fat quotas.
“Science has shown that body type is not a connection to if you’re healthy or unhealthy,” said Adams, who authored a book about losing over 30 pounds, according to The New York Post. “I think that’s a misnomer that we’re really dispelling.”
About 42 percent of American adults are obese, according to the CDC.
“Body size discrimination affects millions of people every year, contributing to harmful disparities in medical treatment and outcomes, blocking people from access to opportunities in employment, housing, and public accommodations, and deepening existing injustices that people face. New York City is leading the nation with this groundbreaking anti-discrimination law. We thank our colleagues in government, advocates, and partners in labor who have supported this law, and we look forward to its full and effective implementation,” NYC City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams and Councilman Shaun Abreu said in a joint statement Sunday.
The city’s Commission on Human Rights will investigate any complaints regarding this matter, according to The New York Post.
Ironically, we never tend to hear much from men when it comes to the body positivity movement.
Everyone and their grandmas know the health consequences that come from condoning such behavior. I don’t have to get into that for you. But this is exactly why fat shaming is a good thing, as it is beneficial by providing an incentive for a healthier lifestyle.
That said, diabetes and other illnesses do not tend to discriminate. But I guess as long as we celebrate obesity, that is all that matters, right?
It is unclear how this law will unfold for airlines, modeling agencies, sports teams, and much more.
