Mike Rowe Challenges Progressive to Defend Their Agenda
It's a good day when I can praise Mike Rowe and mock somebody named Chad. Take that, Tuesday. A guy named Chad DeLong was desperate for attention. He puffed up his probably small chest and sent this to Mike Rowe on Facebook:
I always see these articles saying there is a shortage of construction trade workers, but everywhere I go I see hundreds of them unemployed. There is definitely no shortage of these workers, there’s just a shortage of people willing to work for sub-par poverty wages. That’s why these Mike Rowe types want to flood the labor market. Don’t believe any of that s*** if you read it.
Way to live up to your name, Chad. Dial down the estrogen pills.
Rowe then goes into the facts and figures, you can see laid out here. Here's a taste:
Obviously, I’m aware that some people refuse to work because they believe the pay is too low. People like that exist in every industry, and the construction trades are no different. But that doesn’t mean that low wages are the reason 6.3 million jobs are currently vacant. The fact is, starting salaries in the skilled trades rival or exceed those of many more popular careers.
But it was Rowe's question which is most interesting for our current times and culture.
Obviously, my desire to share stories of success doesn’t make me right, any more than your desire to share stories of failure makes you wrong. But it does give me permission to ask – respectfully and in all seriousness - what is it you hope to accomplish by telling people that opportunity is dead? In other words, what is YOUR agenda?
More conservatives should challenge leftists to answer that question. What's your agenda? Simple. A lot of energy is expended trying to convince people the American dream is dead. That opportunity is just a Fox News talking point issued to make Sean Hannity feel better about himself. Probably racist too. Because anything that challenges the left to defend their ideas usually is racist. Sexist or homophobic. Pick your insult MadLibs.
By telling people opportunity is dead, leftists convince Americans they can only survive with government's help. It's how they wield control and stay in power. And sadly get away with it every two to four years.
Opportunity is everywhere. It's a simple equation: bet on yourself + useful skill + work ethic = opportunity. Check out Mike Rowe Attacked Over ‘Work Ethic’ Scholarship.
