Meathead Rob Reiner: Sure Harvey Weinstein is Bad, But Donald Trump is Too
According to Rob Reiner, sure it was bad that Harvey Weinstein sexually harassed women for decades. Sure it was bad he exploited them. Sure it was bad that all of Hollywood seemed to cover up for him (allegedly). But at least Weinstein's not Donald Trump.
Some on the left are able to put the politics aside for a minute (see Former New York Times Reporter Blasts NYT for Enabling Harvey Weinstein). But not Meathead! He has a job to do, and dammit, he's going to do it!
'Harvey Weinstein did a bad thing. He did a really bad thing,' said Reiner, during an interview with BuzzFeed film critic Alison Willmore.'There's no defending that. It's horrible,' said Reiner, whose movie LBJ, which stars Woody Harrelson, screened over the weekend.
But despite those allegations, the When Harry Met Sally director noted that Weinstein, who was fired by The Weinstein Company on Sunday, isn't as 'bad' as Trump.
During the interview, he said that the president is 'also an abuser', referring to the tape of the then-candidate bragging about groping and having sex with women that emerged last year.
"Harvey did a bad thing.” What? Harvey didn’t screw up once. He repeatedly abused his power to systematically sexually assault women. Ongoing. For decades.
“Trump is far worse.” What? Trump said some naughty words. Yeah they were bad words, yes they were reflective of a dirtbag... but to minimize what Weinstein did/does to try and pivot while overblowing Trump’s sins is just unreal. Plus, despite the media's best efforts, a parade of women didn't come forward saying Trump grabbed them all by their girl parts. Compare that with the growing list of women coming forward about Weinstein. But okay.
And those bad words? Those were when Donald Trump was a New York City liberal making the entertainment industry money. So you know, turning blind eyes and all that.
These people can’t accept responsibility for anything. But they feel the need to lecture us about [insert whatever cause they want to bash us with at the moment, here].
