Amid Louisiana Flood, Obama Releases Memo Warning Against... Racism?

Team Crowder
August 20, 2016

As you can imagine, with the Louisiana flood monster rampaging about, morale has been a bit shaky as of late. It happens. Especially when Louisianians are busy trying to keep their houses from floating into the abyss, and, you know, not drown. As is the case during most natural disasters, eyes have been on President Obama for acknowledgement and encouragement. You know, leadership and stuff. Because President (read George W. Bush is Still Leading - By Example).

Obama didn't fly down to the Bayou to lift spirits, but he did release a memo giving safety tips instead. Just kidding. It was reminding people to not be racist. Yes, really...

President Obama has refused so far to survey the Louisiana flood disaster, but he did let state and local officials know that he's watching to make sure they don't engage in racial discrimination.

In a 16-page guidance issued Tuesday, the Obama administration, led by the Justice Department, warned Louisiana recipients of federal disaster assistance against engaging in "unlawful discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin (including limited English proficiency)."

The guidance's frameworks "highlight the importance of complying with nondiscrimination requirements of civil rights statutes, addressing the needs of the whole community, and ensuring equal opportunity to access recovery efforts."

Look, we get it. The President can't be in all the places at all the times for all the things. But this is what the Obama admin chose to go with? 16 pages of "DON'T BE RACIST"? (Read the whole guidance here) Maybe not the best strategy when it comes to getting on Louisiana's good side. They'd probably prefer something more along the lines of... help.

Naturally, local organizations offering relief were hardly impressed. Yes, they're gaining federal assistance. So there's that... Still, they'd rather not be chastised for racism - that they haven't committed - while they're trying to save people from being swept into a giant death puddle. Can't say I blame them.

This isn't the first time that Obama has opted to go the race-route rather than choosing a useful alternative. The obvious reason is likely to score political correctness points from his Democratic cronies. But regular folk? With eyes and everything? They tend to be not as charmed (see Sheriff Clarke Blasts #BlackLivesMatter and Obama for Race-Baiting). Especially when they're up to their chins in dirty swamp water.

What a week...
