Lena Dunham Cries #OscarsSoWhite, But There's a Problem...
I know, I know. Lena Dunham is an easy target. Both figuratively and literally. Since she's heralded as this generation's feminist hero, I still have to address her on occasion. In this recent interview, like most other times when she speaks, she forces me to get all eye rolly.
“The idea that there aren’t enough diverse filmmakers or there aren’t enough woman filmmakers to give jobs to, it’s simply a fallacy and I know that because I’m here and I’m seeing the movies,” Dunham said.
“If the studio system is ignoring these voices then we have a very serious problem. They are and the fact is this dialogue, and the promises that the Academy has made, is the beginning of shifting that, but what really needs to happen is that people need to take notice and give resources to these voices.”
Here's the rub... her hit show "Girls?" The show she's most known for? All white everything.
As a reddit user puts it...
Yeah, that show has quite a few problems. Of course you can have an all white cast if you really desire to, but if your show is placed in Brooklyn, it'd be kind of cool to show what the neighbourhood looks like.
What I want to see? The next time a white, rich Hollywood leftist start complaining about white, rich, Hollywood leftism, ask them who they voted for in the Oscars this year. Did Lena Dunham vote for Jada Pinkett-Smith or Jennifer Lawrence?
If you did not pick the politically correct answer to both of the above, kindly leave me.
Also, DOUBLE-SECRET-MEGA IRONY alert: Lena Dunham's show "Girls" was never a successful show. It was an affirmative action, SJW decision which was subsequently subsidized by HBO's actual successful shows. Let me give you some numbers.
GIRLS on HBO: 670,000 viewers
GAME OF THRONES (HBO): 8,100,000 viewers.
MEGYN KELLY (FOXNEWS): 2,500,000 viewers
So what do these numbers tell us? That far more women (at least ten times the amount) would prefer to watch "Game of Thrones" than "Girls."
Hell, far more women would rather watch Megyn Kelly's program than "Girls" on HBO. The only reason "Girls" was renewed for more than half a season was because HBO needed to fill their token "mediocre feminism" spot. "Hey everyone, come and see how progressive HBO is!"
So here we see Lena Dunham biting the hand that feeds her. Which is really HBO's fault. Everyone knows to keep your hands and fingers away from the Dunham's mouth at all times. Common practice.
Final note, Lena Dunham also molested her little sister and lied about being raped. So there's that. Learn more about those little tidbits below.
