These times are so silly, Obama is becoming a voice of reason, and Kanye West, Mr. Kim Kardashian, is almost becoming some kind of spiritual leader. He appeared on James Cordon's "Carpool Karaoke" only this time on Kanye's plane. Kanye and his choir sang "Jesus Walks" and shared with Cordon his views on marriage, taxes, and how God is using him for good.

Multiple things can be true at once:

• Kanye is still kind of a braggadocious egotist.
• However, this shift toward a spiritual awakening in Christ seems genuine. Look at how much he has to lose if this doesn't pan out?
• Phase or not, Kanye West's audience, in fact, the culture at large, is desperate for more positive, life-affirming messages from people who shape that same culture. Even if you think Kanye is making all this up, his message about family and faith is still right.
• Since Kanye West is so well known, his shift may have positive ripple effects for a society so mired in hedonism.
