Judge to Retired Marine: Surrender 2nd Amendment Rights, or Surrender Your Grandson...
Here's a story to get your blood pressure up. Anyone with half a brain knows what the left thinks of the Second Amendment (see Oregon Bill Allows Judges To Deny 2nd Amendment Rights and ROLLING STONE: ‘Repeal 2nd Amendment.’ But You’re Just Paranoid). Well, here's a judge who told a Marine he had to chose between his grandson or his constitutional rights.
"Allegedly:"
The Johnsons were going to take custody of their grandson to keep him from going into foster care. When they went to pick up their grandson, William, a retired, disabled Marine with a Concealed Pistol License (CPL), was searched for a firearm. He was not carrying a firearm at the time. At that point, agency officials told the Johnsons that they would be required to provide all firearms’ serial numbers to the agency as part of a registry. When Johnson questioned agency workers, he was given a surprising response.“If you want to care for your grandson you will have to give up some of your constitutional rights,” a MDHHS worker retorted.
M'kay. I looked up the Bill of Rights real quick. There's not an asterisk anywhere near the Second Amendment which says "Unless you want to care for tiny tots, or tots who are not tiny. In which case, give up your lead-slinging boom sticks, you hateful heathen." But maybe that's just my copy.
When the Johnsons appeared before a Gogebic County Court judge, the judge reiterated the agency worker’s statement.“We know we are violating numerous constitutional rights here, but if you do not comply, we will remove the boy from your home,” the judge said.
Now, there is a law in Michigan thatanyone who wants to be a foster parent must register his handguns with the state. Which is crap, but we can argue that at another time.
And the comments by the worker? You can almost dismiss that as a Starbucks employee giving you an attitude about your latte. That attitude is warranted if your latte is any parts soy. Gawd.
But for a JUDGE to say "Yeah, we know we are violating numerous constitutional rights here, but screw you"? Do you even know how to judge, bro?
The Second Amendment is being violated all because this guy wants to care for his grandson. One should have nothing to do with the other. As a retired Marine, methinks this dude knows how to safely store firearms. He's more familiar with his weapons than this judge is familiar with law. Or precedents. Yet here we are, where law is being set and created over panic about guns. In a country which may not exist were it not for patriots access to firearms to fight the control-freak British.
All this to say, the Dumb State of the Day Award goes to Michigan. By a snub nose .357.
