That nightmare was slated to go into effect on July 1st. But it all came to a screeching stop yesterday, thanks to this federal judge. Crisis averted!

A federal judge on Thursday blocked a California law set to take effect Saturday that would have barred gun owners from possessing high-capacity ammunition.

The judge ruled that the ban approved by the Legislature and voters last year takes away gun owners' Second Amendment rights and amounts to the government taking people's private property without compensation.

"Hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of otherwise law-abiding citizens will have an untenable choice: become an outlaw or dispossess one's self of lawfully acquired property," San Diego-based U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez wrote.

He issued a preliminary injunction blocking the law from taking effect while he considers the underlying lawsuit filed by the National Rifle Association-affiliated California Rifle & Pistol Association.

This may have plugged the hole for now, but freedom is still suffering a slow leak in the den of leftism. California liberals have long sought to do away with gun rights (see California Can Now Officially Confiscate Your Guns. The buttery lunged cowards are far more concerned with virtue signaling than bothering with protecting liberties. It seems there's always something else higher up on their list of priorities -- such a tolerance, feel goodery, inclusion, "safety."

Unconstitutional restrictions like this are the direct result of leftism deeming freedom expendable. In this case, California was lucky to chance upon a federal judge who called BS on the need for more gun control. Hopefully it will slow their roll for a bit. But something tells me this won't be the last time the left tries to hulk smash gun rights...
