The joke about political correctness was always that you couldn't make Blazing Saddles today. The band SR-71 even wrote a song about it back in 2000. Blazing Saddles is a classic Mel Brooks movie that makes fun of racists. By 2022 standards, the movie (made in the 70s) doesn't make racism serious enough. Even though... it's a comedy. Wokeness has killed the comedy movie genre. "Murdered it," says Joe Rogan.

But he asked a more interesting question: What was the last great comedy movie you've seen?

"[The studios] aren't afraid of whether or not they'd have a market. They would definitely have a market. But how many people would get canceled because of it? How many people would get attacked because of it? How bad would the studio get protested? [...] When was the last great comedy movie?"

Somewhat related, I think the pandemic killed movies outright. I have a hard time thinking of the last movie I saw, let alone the last good one. But to answer Joe's question, I go back to two movies that aren't classics but were laugh-out-loud for me: Get Him to the Greek (2010) and The Internship (2013).

Get Him to the GreekI've mentioned before. It stars Russell Brand and Rose Byrne. Brand played rockstar Aldous Snow, who would be accused of being a sex pest by 2022 standards. Rose Byrne played his ex-wife, and the movie would be accused of slut-shaming her. Even worse, it was produced by Judd Apatow. Apatow films during that time were all killer. Since then, a lot of the actors involved have since apologized for ever trying to make us laugh.

The Internship saw Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson get internships as adults at Google. Leftists would protest it because they think Vince Vaughn has evil opinions. I KNOW Google to be an evil company, but I still think the movie is hilarious.
