A Win For Sanity: Iowa Votes to SCALE BACK University DEI Programs
One of the reasons why DEI is so evil is that it is not possible to have it without some form of discriminatory racial preference.
I don’t believe there is even any evidence that hints that DEI programs improve student learning in any way. In fact, the evidence alludes to it hurting almost everyone involved. Everyone except the DEI officer, of course.
Iowa’s Board of Regents voted to scale back the university system’s diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, according to National Review. Governor Kim Reynolds signed a bill that established a Board of Regents commission to review DEI programs. Subsequently, 10 recommendations were given.
This includes eliminating university-wide “DEI functions that are not necessary for compliance or accreditation,” checking “all college, department, or unit-level DEI positions to determine whether DEI-specific job responsibilities are necessary for compliance, accreditation, or student and employee support services” and eliminating“the services provided by offices currently supporting diversity or multicultural affairs in other divisions of the university.”
This ensures that employees and students are not required to submit DEI statements or “be evaluated based on participation in DEI initiatives.”
This also prohibits universities from requiring that people provide their pronouns.
Which is good because compelled speech is unconstitutional. But that's not much of a concern for universities anyway.
One effort is the guidance “regarding the separation of personal political advocacy from university business and employment activities” as well as “potential recruitment strategies for advancing diversity of intellectual and philosophical perspectives in faculty and staff applicant pools.”
This move will kick off work at the three public universities in the State.
A handful of students at the University of Northern Iowa rallied Wednesday in support of their DEI programs, according to the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier.
Some signs read “DEI Saves Lives” and “DEI Makes a University.” And “Iowa Needs All of Us.”
Exactly how many lives has DEI saved?
At the very least, our higher education system would only benefit if all public universities got rid of their DEI programs.
One of the reasons why DEI is so painfully stupid is because all human groupings in history have resulted in differential outcomes. No matter how you look at it, every single thing will result in some unequal distribution. It also attempts to fix unproven discrimination through actual discrimination. You know, because two wrongs totally make a right.
That said, DEI is truly evil because it separates people as the oppressed and the oppressors based on their skin color. It does nothing to advance equality since it is anything but that, and only fuels more division and hate.
