Watch: WH Dodges Question About Hanukkah Celebrations Being Canceled Over Hamas War With 'Yeah, But Islamophobia'
Let the lefties in your life know you fight like hell with the classic FIGHT LIKE HELL tee! Buy the shirt at CrowderShop.com.
Amid Israel's ongoing war with Hamas, a Hanukkah celebration in Virginia has been canceled, and Jewish symbols have been removed from holiday light displays. Karine Jean-Pierre was asked probably the easiest question by NBC's Mike Memoli to denounce cancellations of Hanukkah celebrations and, for those that will happen, if there are any security concerns.
This question was so incredibly easy you would think it was planted. However, for someone like KJP, this was not an easy question. On top of that, she could not have come across as more tone-deaf if she tried.
Because of course, she haaaaaaaaaad to mention Islamophobia and fear "in the Muslim community." Although, it is not clear if she realized that was not the question.
Don’t you just love the way she never answers anything?
"I don't have any specifics to lay out as we get closer to the holiday. But obviously, we have seen an uptick in anti-Semitism. We have seen an uptick in hate just more broadly in different communities. Also in the Muslim community. And so we will do everything that we can to make sure that these communities feel safe,” she said.
A menorah lighting was scheduled to take place at the 2nd Sundays Art and Music Festival in Williamsburg, Virginia, on Dec. 10, but it has since been canceled. Shirley Vermillion, the festival's founder, told the Daily Press that the menorah lighting "seemed very inappropriate" given the war, according to Newsweek.
This is not the first time Karine Jean-Pierre gave a non-responsive answer to a question about whether or not this administration is worried about the rise in anti-Semitism.
But are you surprised? This is the same White House that decided that in the wake of escalating anti-semitic threats and attacks in the United States, it was best to focus on a National Strategy to Counter Islamophobia.Jews were the target of more than 50 percent of the religiously motivated hate crimes even though they are only 2.4 percent of the population. Less than 10 percent of religiously motivated hate crimes were anti-Muslim.
Typically, White House press securities tend to be capable of quick, semi-coherent answers. They are tasked to spin political talking points favorably. That is just how the game goes. But KJP has got to be the worst secretary I have ever seen. She has a hard time putting a sentence together even when she refers to and reads straight out of her handy dandy notebook.
She should have just used her favorite go-to "no comment" response on this one.
