With all due respect to President Obama, is there a former president who needs to put a sock in it more than Jimmy Carter? Because aside from Obama, I’m pretty sure there’s a consensus among voters and people with the ability to read history, that Carter was one of the worst presidents ever.
We get it, Carter, you’re a Democrat. You need to attack the Republican nominee. But instead of attacking Trump on issues where Trump might be vulnerable (don’t get mad, Trump supporters, all people have flaws), Carter instead claims Trump is violating human rights?
Jimmy Carter believes Donald Trump violated ‘basic human rights’ in his comments on Muslims and Mexican immigrants.
The former president blasted Trump in an interview published by the New York Times on Monday, saying his campaign had ‘tapped a waiting reservoir there of inherent racism’.
Carter, 91, said he had witnessed an increase in open racism in the United States lately.
‘When you single out any particular group of people for secondary citizenship status, that’s a violation of basic human rights,’ Carter said.
He was referring to Trump’s call to ban Muslims from entering the country in December last year and to statements in which Trump called Mexican immigrants criminals.
I’m admittedly not a Trump fan (see Donald Trump Condemns North Carolina: ‘Let transgenders use whatever bathroom they want…’ and WATCH: Donald Trump Wants to Sue The Press Over ‘Negative’ Coverage…), but it’s not because he’s “racist” or “sexist.” It’s because he’s inconsistent. If you care about conservative policy and believe it’s what this country needs, Trump has given you plenty of reasons not to trust him.
But attacks like this? It only emboldens Trump and gives him a bigger microphone. Plus his comments on Islam and the immigration situation? Not racist. But crying “racism” is just about the only play left in the Democrat book. Except the more and more they use it, applying it to any situation which isn’t actually racist, they lose credibility. Donald Trump is a different political animal. Can we agree on that one? Okay, cool beans. Where the “racism” or “sexism” smears may have worked on a politician broken from the old mold, these smears no worky on the Trumpster.
And that’s besides the fact Carter’s comments are a pointless, meaningless attack. Being against Islam isn’t racism (read Even Leftists, Atheist Richard Dawkins: Islam is NOT a Race…). Being pro-immigration isn’t racism. The simple fact is, our southern border, which is as solid as a colander, borders Mexico. Which means predominately Mexicans seep through it. No, that’s not me comparing Mexicans to wet noodles. Though the thought of noodles al dente is making me a bit hungry…
Stay on topic. Trump can be attacked. Politicians get attacked. But to resort to the old plays with this candidate? LOL at you. Won’t work. It also proves you’re an ignoramus, Carter. Which, let’s be honest, we already knew.
