NANNY STATE: France Now Says Spanking Bratty Children is Illegal...
In case you haven't noticed, freedom is rather limited in Europe (see UK Man Actually Arrested for Anti-Islam... Thoughts?!). Naturally, French parliament recently rallied up to pass a new bill impeding on even more freedoms. Of course, one doesn't expect much good to come from a French gathering of political douche baguettes. The new bill seeks to stomp out big parenting no-nos. The major offending action it targets? Spanking your kid.
The French parliament successfully voted to enact the "Equality and Citizenship" bill, which places a country-wide ban on all forms of corporal punishment, including harmful physical treatment like caning, flogging, or, a more common form of punishment - spanking.Child abuse was already illegal in the country, but this new law, which makes spanking a civil offense, was created to eradicate all forms of "degrading, cruel and humiliating" treatment of kids by their parents.
So this is what France has been doing since it was last blown to smithereens. Interesting...
Clearly, this is a useless law. Child abuse was already illegal in France. Also, as a whole, first world countries have naturally progressed from the kid-punishing dark ages. Most of society can agree that grabbing a switch and beating a kid to a pulp is child abuse. You know, besides your 90-year-old grandma who still doesn't trust the microwave. But a speedy slap on the butt with an open palm? Not a bad thing. In fact, it's something many a European leftist could benefit from...
There are plenty of decent folk, and then there are some degenerate little rule-breakers whose bottoms have never felt the sting of solid parenting. But the spanking debate isn't the point. The problem here? This is simply another excuse for French parliament to butt itself into its people's lives. Not everyone agrees with spanking as a punishment. That's okay. But how someone disciplines their mini-human is none of the government's business.
A friendly suggestion to the people of Europe? Stop giving your governments so much power over your day-to-day lives (read Dear Wimps Willing to Exchange Liberty for 'Safety'...). In a strange twist of fate, you're the ones who end up getting spanked.
