France to Fine Men for 'Sexist' Comments in Public. Women Get a Free Pass.
Europe desperately wants to prove they hate all things sexism. It makes their love affair with lady-hating migrants all the more confusing, but I digress. First it was the United Kingdom (see SEXISM: 'Misogyny' Now a Hate Crime in the UK). Now France is up to bat. Their new initiative involves "sexist" comments. Particularly, dudes who offend women will land themselves a hefty fine:
A new government report recommends the €90 fine for "behavior that is an infringement of the freedom of movement of women in public spaces and undermines self-esteem and the right to security."It has been suggested that the fine will start at €90 for those who can pay immediately and will increase to €135 (for payment within 15 days) and could even go up to €375 if the payment is late.
So this can mean anything from actual harassment to accidentally bumping into a lady. Or, as listed above, somehow infringing upon her sacred self esteem. All men privileged enough to gaze upon a woman-goddess in the streets must now act accordingly. For the sake of fighting sexism.
There's something missing here and it's a tad glaring. Like an angry feminist stomping her hooves before she charges. There's no such anti-sexism policy aimed to protect men, even though men can also be victims of harassment (see Mariah Carey Accused of Sexually Harassing her Bodyguard and Narrative Buster: Female Democrat Accused of Sexual Harassment). Seems like there's a lot of gender-based assumptions being made here. Oopsie.
Fines could be handed out to those caught following women on the street, blocking their paths or making loud and lewd comments on their physique or appearance, according to reports. The goal is to battle the long-standing problem of so-called "everyday sexism" on France's streets.
So many problems with this. Aside from the obvious one sidedness, this policy fails to address the heart of the issue. Apparently France is struggling to deal with truckloads of street sexism. Said sexism wasn't a big enough problem to warrant a law, up until now. Something must have changed in the last few years that lead them to this. Let's take a look.

If you spotted the pattern, congratulations! You're an Islamophobe.
In Europe's efforts to be super duper politically correct and hashtag woke, they've completely ignored the root of the problem. Instead they've only managed to single out an entire gender based on generalizations. Which sounds a lot like sexism. Job well done?
