FOX Releases Trailer for the "Last Man Standing" Reboot
It's been teased. It's be rumored. Our emotions have been toyed with (see The Roseanne Effect: Fox in Talks to Reboot “Last Man Standing” and Tim Allen Teases the Return of ‘Last Man Standing’ on Twitter). But FOX is going ahead with the "Last Man Standing" reboot. To make it official, they released a teaser trailer at the Upfronts.
A number of questions remain. Least of all is what actors will return. I'd be lying if I wasn't a little concerned about if the show would be the same. Don't judge, I've been watching reruns on the Hallmark Channel. While waiting for Christmas movies. Don't hate tweet me.
People point to the "Roseanne effect" as the reason for "Last Man Standing's" comeback. While I enjoy "Roseanne," a lot of times the political aspects seem forced. Like they're trying too hard to make points by checking off boxes. Saying "illegals," praying for the military, etc. Like the show is conservative paint by numbers.
"Last Man Standing" worked not because Allen portrays a conservative as something other than Hitler. It worked because it was a funny comedy about friends and family. One of whom happened to be a conservative. The comedy always came first. Anything political was natural.
Last night I was watching a rerun where Eve (youngest daughter) talked about joining the Air Force Academy "because she could never repay what this country has given to her family." Not in a preachy way. Or a "they'll love this on Fox News" way. In a "this is who the character is" way.
I hope none of that changes. TV executives, once they hone in on something they think works, have a habit of wanting to beat you over the head with it.
