Female Gamers Claim 'Toxicity' Discourages Them From Going Professional

Corey Stallings
January 04, 2019

With everything being "toxic" these days, it's a miracle us humans aren't dead. As a general rule, if anything is a traditionally masculine pursuit, it's more toxic than the fumes emanating from Michael Moore's dirty undies. Here's an example. Female gamers are making excuses for why they won't go pro.

"Toxicity" is right at the top of the list:

The Entertainment Software Association reported this year that 45 percent of U.S. gamers are female, yet women make up a scant portion of the professional esports player pool.

The industry has grappled with harassment and toxic behavior since the Gamergate scandal of 2014, when a group of male gamers organized to target women throughout the industry. Women say they feel marginalized within the community and are routinely subject to nasty comments about their ability or appearance.

Much like everyone else in the history of ever. Have you even been online? It's a cesspool of people being trolling boobs.

For elite gamers, much of it comes from fans, but opponents and teammates are sometimes just as challenging. At the lower levels, women are often bombarded by hyper masculinity in a space where most everyone is anonymous.

Look, just to be clear, I don't support harassing anyone. No matter if they're a woman, a child, a brown person, or a circus midget. Though, the complaints coming from these lady people are grade-A bullhickey.

Let's get one thing straight. Everybody is a target in online gaming. I've personally been called every vile, racist, homophobic slur in the book. Some of which even required a trip to Urban Dictionary to decode. Not to mention the unspeakable utterances directed toward my maternal figure.

If you can't handle the inevitable douchebaggery that comes with being online, that's what the mute button is for. Dealing with naysayers is a part of life. Everyone has to put up with it, including us folks with dangles. If the ladies want to go pro, maybe they should stop acting like a bunch of n00bs and deal with it.

Also, don't blame your suck levels on being mocked. Maybe you just suck because you just suck. Not everything is sexism.

Speaking of whiny women:
