Father's Day Op-Ed Declares Masculinity Toxic, Demands More Feminism
Happy Fathers Day to all you dads out there. Most people are content to fill out the day giving Lowe's gift cards and jars of mixed nuts to all the male role models in their lives.
Leftists, on the other hand, are using the day to lecture us on the evils of "toxic" masculinity:
This weekend is Fathers Day, a holiday typically celebrated with displays of testosterone and gendered clichés. It’s also as good a time as any to acknowledge that there is indeed a crisis of masculinity. But it isn't caused by feminism and changing gender norms. Rather, men experience violence and oppression because norms are not changing. And it is, in general, powerful men who enforce these unhelpful and sometimes dangerous masculine expectations, not tyrannous feminist women.Men need more feminism in their lives, more gender equality and a relaxation of rigid and counterproductive gender norms. In other words, feminism isn't killing men — toxic masculinity is.
Well, now I suppose us fellas are supposed to trade fishing for mani-pedis. Our charcoal grills for espresso machines. Our pickup trucks for a Prius.
I can't say leftists hijacking one of the only man-centric holidays in order to push their political agenda is surprising. Leftists are seemingly incapable of allowing a party to go un-pooped. If any part of a holiday doesn't mesh with their narrative, like masculinity being a thing, they have to interject.
Leftists have a bone to pick with masculinity because it's a giant roadblock to leftism. Masculine virtues like leadership, rationality, and perseverance get in the way of progressives' fantasies about a docile, dependent populace that stays in line. Kiddos with strong male figures in their lives are likely to become strong male figures themselves. Which is bad news for lefties.
