Empire Cuts Jussie Smollett's Character from Final Two Episodes of the Season

Courtney Kirchoff
February 22, 2019

Listen up kids, if you're unhappy with your salary, don't go faking hate crimes. Further, don't go faking crimes then paying your co-fakers with a check. Because sooner or later, Mistress Karma will pay you a visit you won't soon forget. Jussie Smollett, who after faking a hate crime allegedly because he was unhappy with his salary and was looking to boost his profile -- not clear on how one connects with the other -- has been officially removed from the final episodes of Empire.

Jussie Smollett's character in "Empire" will be removed from the final two episodes of the fifth season.… https://t.co/aH5BEjkgzP

According to CNN and an earlier report (see Jussie Claims Innocence to Empire Cast. Here's How They Reacted) the cast of Empire isn't pleased with Jussie. They feel betrayed, angry and embarrassed. Which, sure. I can see that. After lying to their faces, after maligning Trump supporters, after scaring black gays roaming around Chicago in the dead of night just looking for sammiches, only to learn it was all unicorn boofs, one would be upset.

Actions have consequences. Related WATCH: Trevor Noah's Silver Lining of the Jussie Smollett Story is Perfect.

Now it's still unclear if Jussie's character will return in the next season. But if it were me, and if I were writing for Empire, I'd find a way to remove the character permanently. Car accident, elevator shaft, freak gasoline fight accident. The ways a character can be bumped off are legion.

What do you think will happen? Will the cast and crew of Empire forgive and forget? Or is Jussie destined for an unemployment line near you?
