Well, well, well. As we suspected, Jussie Smollett’s 2 am Chicago Polar Vortex hate crime was a staged hoax. At least according to the police who’ve been investigating this matter for over two weeks. I’d say I’m surprised but that would be a lie. Which is more Jussie Smollett’s territory. Quick to jump on the America is a hateful place, I can’t believe this, we need justice for Jussie bandwagon, thus failing to wait for any facts and choosing to virtue signal their care (and stupidity) are the following celebrities. They all owe Chicago, and possibly America itself, a big apology. Which I will accept even if uttered through mouthfuls of crow.
In no particular order…
Disgusted by the ugly prejudice and bigotry behind this violence. Sending love to @JussieSmollett & to anyone that has been hurt by the hatred of those who fear difference. As a society, we continue to fail LGBTQIA+ communities and PoC. pic.twitter.com/FFRPIbhOip
— Emma Watson (@EmmaWatson) January 30, 2019
Hate also hasn’t solved the problem of young celebrities quick to jump to conclusions. Who here is more hateful? Emma Watson who’s disgusted over what turns out to be a man faking a crime, or Jussie Smollett who hates certain Americans so much he was willing to fake a crime for his own personal gain?
— KATY PERRY (@katyperry) January 29, 2019
What’s shameful to our country is the credence we give to people like Katy Perry who hate our country and look for any “evidence” to justify it.
The horrific attack on Jussie Smollett has no place in a decent human loving society. Homophobia existed before Trump, but there is no question that since he has injected his hatred into the American bloodstream, we are less decent, less human,& less loving. No intolerance! No DT!
— Rob Reiner (@robreiner) January 30, 2019
Meathead is right, baseless, horrific attacks have no place in decent human-loving society. He’s not right about what caused this “attack.” Jussie caused the attack. Jussie faked it. Reiner owes Trump a major apology, no?
I’ve been trying to figure out all day what to say about the racist, homophobic, violence against @JussieSmollett.
Not sure I can describe what I’m feeling in a neat & tidy tweet. His trauma deserves more.
I’m sad. Living together on the planet shouldn’t be this difficult.
— Alyssa Milano (@Alyssa_Milano) January 30, 2019
I have an idea: wait for facts.
I am disgusted and horrified to hear of the homophobic and racial attack on Jussie Smollett last night. Unfortunately, these hateful attacks happen way too often. We must call out and hold those accountable. Sending love to you, Jussie.
— Mindy Kaling (@mindykaling) January 29, 2019
I am disgusted and horrified you hate Americans so badly you were willing to believe a hoaxer with little evidence. Will you now call for Jussie to be held accountable? Sending love to your critics, Mindy.
— Mark Hamill (@HamillHimself) January 30, 2019
Shame on us indeed if we don’t protest and demand #JusticeForJussie who should be held accountable for faking a crime, taking up precious police time and resources, and trying to pass Chicago off as a racist, homophobic stomping ground.
An attempted lynching in 2019. Where’s the “get over it, it’s in the past” crowd now? This is absolutely disgusting and it’s a reality. Justice for #JussieSmollett I’m sick.
— h (@halsey) January 30, 2019
I’m sick too, over people like you (I have no idea who this person is, by the way), believing a hoax is a reality simply because it fits into your narrow, hateful worldview. But I am down for justice for Jussie.
When the attackers used words like “f**got” and “n**ger,” stop calling it a “possible” hate crime. It’s a HATE CRIME. Period. This is atrocious. Standing with you @JussieSmollett #JusticeForJussie https://t.co/hjGIPrgbr4
— Sophia Bush (@SophiaBush) January 29, 2019
Will you now stand with Chicago PD as it brings justice to a man who conducted an atrocity against them?
OMG!! THIS is why the LGBTQ community continue to fight to be seen and PROTECTED against hate!
— Viola Davis (@violadavis) January 29, 2019
Do you love Chicago PD? Are you putting your arms around them?
— Chadwick Boseman (@chadwickboseman) January 30, 2019
What happens when Jussie’s light is the hate? I’m curious what Black Panther thinks about that conundrum.
We ALL have a responsibility to rise up against the ignorance and hate out there. If you know who did this to @JussieSmollett, REPORT THEM TO THE POLICE.
— shonda rhimes (@shondarhimes) January 29, 2019
JUSSIE DID IT! Will you take up the responsibility, Shonda, to hold Jussie to justice?
Jussie Smollett was violently attacked by two white men who poured bleach on him and put a noose around his neck. He was targeted for being black and for being gay. THIS is why we have to have zero tolerance against homophobia and racism. Jussie’s life matters.
— Olivia Munn (@oliviamunn) January 29, 2019
Oh dear, Olivia. Jussie’s life matters, but so does truth matter. Your tweet is a mess and I’d consider deleting it. Not that it matters, I screen captured all of these tweets. Just in case you also decided not looking like an idiot mattered.
I interrupt the tweets for an Instagram post. Guys, look at the photo of Jussie:
Anyone who turns bleach into a weapon is a danger to society.
Anyone who turns a rope into a noose is committing a hate crime.
Anyone who cannot recognize that queer black people continue to be physically attacked in this country is contributing to the problem. #JussieSmollett

Anyone who runs with a false narrative because it confirms their hateful bias is a prejudicial moron who deserves to be raked over the coals.
'Our truths cannot be erased. Our lives must not be erased. We will not be erased.' — Celebrities and activists are speaking out against hate after the racist, homophobic attack on actor Jussie Smollett
— NowThis (@nowthisnews) February 6, 2019
I don’t know who most of these people are. That probably makes me a racist, but they were racist and hateful first for believing someone based on nothing, right? Is that how this works?
Aaaaand Ellen Page:
Ellen Page's emotional interview with Stephen Colbert is going viral after she scorched the current administration in the wake of Jussie Smollett's hate-fueled attack (Watch the full interview: https://t.co/EN5IjFva6G via @colbertlateshow) pic.twitter.com/ZDHfYf7ZQI
— NowThis (@nowthisnews) February 7, 2019
The same Ellen Page who tried church-shaming Chris Pratt. Is Ellen going to call out herself and her celebrity cohorts who were irresponsible in their rage on Jussie’s behalf? I won’t hold my breath.
Then we have the politicians who couldn’t help themselves:
The vicious attack on actor Jussie Smollett was an attempted modern-day lynching. I'm glad he's safe.
To those in Congress who don't feel the urgency to pass our Anti-Lynching bill designating lynching as a federal hate crime– I urge you to pay attention. https://t.co/EwXFxl5f2m
— Cory Booker (@CoryBooker) January 29, 2019
A modern-day lynching of facts, sure. But not a modern-day lynching of anything other than facts. Well, and reputations.
.@JussieSmollett is one of the kindest, most gentle human beings I know. I’m praying for his quick recovery.
This was an attempted modern day lynching. No one should have to fear for their life because of their sexuality or color of their skin. We must confront this hate.
— Kamala Harris (@KamalaHarris) January 29, 2019
He may be kind, he may be gentle, but he’s a hateful liar. Hateful seems to run contrary to kindness, but then again Kamala Harris is a skank so. Morality to her is kind of a blur.
What happened today to @JussieSmollett must never be tolerated in this country. We must stand up and demand that we no longer give this hate safe harbor; that homophobia and racism have no place on our streets or in our hearts. We are with you, Jussie. https://t.co/o8ilPu68CM
— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) January 30, 2019
Are you also with Chicago PD as they investigate the hateful racist Jussie Smollett?
"When one of the most famous black and gay men in America is not safe, the message is clearer than it has ever been." The dangerous lies spewing from the right wing is killing & hurting our people.
— Rashida Tlaib (@RashidaTlaib) January 30, 2019
The right wing had nothing to do with this after all. What did have something to do with this is the hate the left embraces and believes, then runs with when it suits them, and ignores when it doesn’t. Also, I’d never heard of Jussie until this “incident.” So spare me the “most famous gay black man” spiel.
