DHS Will Leverage Social Media to Bust Illegal Immigrants
Don't look now, @NoPersonIsIllegal69420. If you're putting it all out there on the line, DHS is coming to get you!
There has been a notable uptick in illegal immigration arrests now that we're actually allowed to enforce the law (see BOOM: Acting ICE Director Wants Illegals Gone. Now! and “YOU’RE NEXT!” Acting ICE Director Hints ‘Sanctuary’ City Mayors Could be Busted). Now DHS has started using social media to track people.
(h/t to The Right Scoop)
The Department of Homeland Security will soon start collecting social media and search result information on immigrants.First reported by BuzzFeed, the new rule was originally published Sept. 18. It allows them to collect immigrants’ “social media handles, aliases, associated identifiable information, and search results.”
The policy would apply to green card holders, naturalized citizens, legal guardians of immigrants who have disabilities, and those involved in DHS national security or immigration-related investigations. BuzzFeed points out collecting that information could also affect anyone who has ever interacted or communicated with immigrants online.
To channel Ted Cruz for a smidgen, I'd like to note that the video says "immigrants" instead of "illegal immigrants." Since, you know, the left wants us to conflate one with the other. Cheeky bastards.
One question that comes to mind is, if DHS is only just starting to use social media - where people gleefully post their whereabouts at all times as if strangers on social media gave any flying craps - why is DHS only starting to do this now? Seems like a rather obvious choice with everyone tagging their location when they snap an Instagram of their just one bite taken brownie. Looks delicious, amigo.
Oh yeah now I remember. There's a new administration which takes illegal immigration seriously. And tracking information people choose to make public (their social media) seems one fair way to go, yeah? The search results... well that's a bit shifty. But so are people here illegally.
