Democrats Launch Study into 'Illegal' Gun Sales to Prove a Point. It Backfires!
Democrats insist they aren't after your guns. Which is why they keep trying to implement gun control. They also shame you for having guns. Pedophiles are A-OK! Gun owners? NAY!
Their newest attempt at vilifying gun culture comes as a pleasant fail fest. Elizabeth Warren and her assorted minions launched a study meant to show how dangerous online gun sales are. The only rub is it turned out to be decidedly not so. Oopsie.
A Democrat-backed study meant to expose illicit online gun sales instead seemed to show the opposite -- with hardly any sellers taking the bait when undercover investigators tried to set up dozens of illegal firearm transactions.
Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., as well as Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, had commissioned the Government Accountability Office report to look into how online private dealers might be selling guns to people not allowed to have them.
Over the course of the two-and-a-half year investigation, agents tried to buy firearms illegally on the “Surface Web” and the “Dark Web,” generally by sharing their status as “prohibited individuals” or trying to buy across state lines.
But the GAO revealed that their 72 attempts outside of the dark web were all “unsuccessful.”
So in other words, legitimate gun sellers opted to follow the law. What a surprising turn of events.
“Private sellers on Surface Web gun forums and in classified ads were unwilling to sell a firearm to our agents that self-identified as being prohibited from possessing a firearm,” the GAO reported, noting that in their “72 attempts ... 56 sellers refused to complete a transaction once we revealed that either the shipping address was across state lines or that we were prohibited by law from owning firearms.” In the other cases, the investigators' website was frozen or they encountered suspected scammers.
Not the result they were looking for. Or hoping for, rather. "Everyone obeyed the law!" doesn't exactly make a case for more gun regulation. Fear mongering is far more effective.
These results aren't a shocker to those actually familiar with guns and the people who own them. Progressives tend to be incredibly surprised when they see how tame the boomstick society is up close. It's almost as if legal gun owners/dealers are actually law-abiding citizens. This concept. It's befuddling to leftist brains.
If anything this proves how much additional gun laws aren't needed (see Surprise! Accidental Firearm Deaths Lowest in Years. No Gun Control Required...). The laws currently in place are already doing their jobs just fine, thanks. No need for Elizabeth Warren to put her wrinkled paws all over the world of online gun sales. Back to the evil lair she goes. More plotting to do.
Don't worry, I'm sure it won't be long before we see another leftist "study" pop up.
