New Daily Show Host Trevor Noah Goes After... Buzzfeed?
Since the 90's, the most trusted man in news for liberals was a comedian who had the same political opinion than them, who would cherry pick news clips, out of context, of people his audience already didn't like. The audience would then say amen. He was a god to them.
That guy is retiring, and his being replaced by another comedian, Trevor Noah. He's planning on taking the show in a different direction...
The Daily Show was based on an emerging 24-hour news cycle ... Now you look at news, and it’s changing. It’s no longer predicated around 24-hour news. There are so many different sources. Half of it is online now. Now, you’ve got the Gawkers and the BuzzFeeds, and the way people are absorbing their news in sound bites and headlines and little click links has changed everything. The Stewart Daily Show was focused on the day's political news and gaffes, but that's a currency that is shared less and less online. Noah seems more interested in the idea of the online outrage machine and the targets it chooses (which have included him). If he can translate that idea to TV, then the show could successfully reinvent itself for a new era.
This could prove to be interesting, since most of the outrage machine is fueled by the left (including those who regularly eat their own). Will Trevor Noah be going after that? Will he be willing to take on the SJW, the professionally (and perpetually) offended? There's only one faction of the United States looking to end our very right to free speech as we know it. It's the left. Will Trevor crusade against them?
Or will he just cherry pick outrage and take it out of context in true "Daily Show" fashion. Only time will tell.
