Crime-ridden progressive city votes to remove police from public schools because, and I quote, "safety is a top priority"
“Safety is a top priority,” according to the Chicago Public School website. “We have implemented a comprehensive system that includes trained staff, protocols, programs, and policies to keep students and staff safe before, during, and after school,” the website further explains. However, that plan does not include police officers because the Board of Education unanimously voted to remove all cops from public schools.
The Chicago Board of Education voted unanimously on Thursday to remove school resource officers from Chicago Public Schools, with the removal of the officers required by the start of next school year.
The vote followed hours of passionate public comment from both advocates of removing school resource officers district-wide and those who supported leaving the decision up to individual schools.
The resolution passed will establish a comprehensive school safety policy throughout Chicago Public Schools, ending the practice of school resource officers that initially began in 1991.
The unanimous vote was praised by advocates for removing the officers from schools, saying that investments in teachers and counselors is more helpful.
"Our children need counselors, they don't need cops," Brenda Delgado of Brighton Park said.
I would love to see the evidence that proves counselors keep students safer than cops. But everyone reading this knows they likely don’t have much of that.
I doubt any of those “extra funds” will go toward counselors, and if it does, they will be extremely woke and committed to “affirming” gender ideology.
The only reason people would remove cops from schools is if safety was the last thing they cared about. Criminals are not scared of counselors.
It is a fact that violent crime is a serious problem for some Chicago public schools. So at the very least, the Board should have cops in some of the schools. But rather than providing the least bit of safety for the schools that need it, students won’t be getting any of that.
The evidence clearly shows that the presence of more police is correlated with less crime. But when you are fueled by a woke ideology that believes everyone is just a victim of the system, you get more nonsense and fewer cops. And subsequently, the very people society is tasked with protecting the most suffer because of that.
One day school officials might do something beneficial for students in Chicago public schools. But the day has yet to come to fruition. And for now, we shall only hope that the inevitable calamity to come because of this will not be as bad as the blatant evidence shows.
