It wasn't long ago that we talked about how there's been a major increase in gun sales (see Report: Smith & Wesson Gun Sales Near All Time High, Post Dallas). According to a new report, the number of concealed carry permits is following suit. They're ballooning faster than 2010 Val Kilmer after a bucket of KFC.

More than 14.5 million Americans are now licensed to carry a concealed handgun - a jump of 1.73 million in just a year, according to new research that says women and black Americans are among the most eager to sign up.

More than 6 percent of the adult population in the U.S. now has a permit to carry a concealed weapon, according to John R. Lott Jr. at the Crime Prevention Research Center. "Part of it is just Obama. We have had a big increase in people buying guns, but it's pretty clear it's broader." Mr. Lott said.

This is a good thing, for various reasons. Namely the more people can defend themselves, which is always a win. Statistics also show the more people have concealed carries, the more criminals crap themselves. That means more poop, sure, but a lot less crime. Tradeoffs.

This line is important: "Part of it is just Obama," says the dude who's been collecting all the data. So matter-of-factly, too. We know there's been a trend of rising concealed carry permits and gun sales following tragic events... But it's also important to note people seek to arm themselves in response to opportunistic anti-gun politicians too (read Why are Guns More Popular Than Ever? Because Democrats). It's pretty simple - Democrats push for stricter gun control, people push back by buying more guns.

We've said it before, but it bears repeating: it's a good idea to arm yourselves while you still can. It's not just a matter of saying "Screw you Democrats." Though there may be some of that. The thrust, though, comes down to clinging to our freedoms in the face of possible tyranny. Tyranny that's been squeezed into an unsightly pantsuit (Hillary Clinton Refuses to Admit Right to Bear Arms is Constitutional...). Because no thanks.
