Feminist Tries Shaming Cat-Callers... with Selfies?!
Feminists get weirded out by the darndest things. Comedy about smelly vajayjays? Totally cool. Walking about bare-chested to protest men's love for bewbs? Totally cool (see Amy Schumer Now Whining That Chappelle is More Successful Than Her and FEMEN Protests Woody Allen’s Alleged Sexual Misconduct by Going Topless). Having a man say you're beautiful on the street? RAPE.
One young lady decided to take a selfie with every guy who cat-called her on the street. She put the photos on Instagram to raise awareness about... the objectification of women? To shame people who are shameless? To show off her pouty lips?
Lesson: cat-call, get immortalized with lady. His day = made.
Translation "Hey girl, where are you going?"~"Home"~"Can we join? Where do you live? Think we can do fun things together."
Okay this one might just be for safety. A stranger in a car yelling at you is a little icky.
Well crap. I don't see anything wrong with this one. One of the young men wants her number. Not gonna lie, they're all kind of cute. They think she is too. Sounds like a match made by Disney.
Aw, the crooked old man thinks she's beautiful. Why are we surprised again? I'm not sure I'm getting the point of this experiment. You?
A man asking to see a girl smile.
Okay yes, as a girl, some of this stuff is creepy. But stopping and taking a selfie with these guys was the highlight of their day. It probably gave them incentive to call after other straightfaced, iPhone toters who've never heard of mascara.
She was hoping to shame them. This happened instead: "Yo, Bob. Come take a look at dis. We're famous!"
You can't shame people incapable of being shamed. Which, incidentally, are the type of guys who have all the confidence in the world to cat call. She should have kept walking. Now her Instagram account has over 92k followers. Call the environmentalists, this is a gross waste of the internet. Instead of shrugging and moving on with her day, thereby not awarding them with attention, she did the exact opposite.
Sorry, lady. You're cute but a little stupid.
Are "normal" women really upset about being catcalled? Do they make a huge deal of it, or do they take it as a compliment and move on with their lives? Watch and find out.
