Colorado Teachers Start Carrying Guns to Fight School Shootings
Some teachers are tired of school shootings being a thing, so they're doing something about it. No, they're not hash tagging or gluing awareness ribbons to their plaid shirts. Check out what this pro-Second Amendment, pro-not-dying group (called Faster) is doing to make school campuses a safer place.
Trigger warning: triggers are involved...
Teachers are being trained to carry guns in classrooms in Colorado in order to protect children as part of a scheme motivated by a school massacre in 2012.
The three day course, which consists of firearms and medical training, was launched on Tuesday in Weld County.
The course, provided by the Faculty Administrator Safety Training and Emergency Response group (Faster), was set up by parents, law enforcement officers and medical experts who believe that US schools are a "soft target" for violence.
Kudos to this program for being proactive. All schools should consider equipping their teachers to defend themselves and students. It's a step up from using one's body as a meat shield. As beautiful as meat shields are. Even the gender fluid ones.
Of course, such a kickass safety measure is not without its detractors.
The move has angered campaign groups such as Safe Campus Colorado, which encourages its supporters to petition local authorities to help keep guns out of school ... who said in a statement to Colorado's 9 News channel that the move to train staff in the use of guns on campus was detrimental to the safety of both students and teachers.
"The dangers of adding guns to a school environment are dramatically increased by allowing loaded lethal weapons into a school environment on a daily basis," [the group] said.
Not so. Firstly, we've seen time and time again that absence of guns in the classroom does nothing to stop school shootings, where teachers and students are equipped with nothing but their rainbow stickers and soured happy thoughts. Mass shootings tend to be BYOG. Perps bring their own guns. Mainly because teachers and staff (heretofore) did not. Renders a perfect scenario for demented hoodlums desirous of massive body counts.
The worst part? School staff are often left defenseless against such atrocities, no thanks to anti-gun rhetoric (and laws) such as this. While Safe Campus Colorado demands we keep guns out of the hands of the good guys, bad guys waltz on campus and commence target practice. It's like... well, shootings kids in a classroom. It's not the stuff of motivational posters.
Gun control doesn't work the way anti-gun advocates think it does. It doesn't stop bad things from happening (see WOW: New Report Reveals Just How Badly Australia's Gun Ban Failed). See also any school shooting in the history of ever. The majority of schools already practice gun control by disallowing weapons on campus. Yet school shootings still happen. And all the left's precious gun control does is stop those who could have helped from drawing their guns and pumping the bad guys full of lead.
While we're on the subject...
