Watch: Grandson of Kansas City shooter tells CNN his grandpa's totally racist because he's an 'American Christian male'
Last week, 84-year-old Andrew Lester shot a 16-year-old black male named Ralph Yarl in Kansas City. The police said Yarl was picking up his siblings and mistakenly went to the wrong house. Prosecutors say Yarl rang the doorbell and did not enter the house, and Lester shot him through the glass door.
According to the probable cause statement, Lester told police he had already gone to bed when he heard the doorbell ring. He picked up his revolver and went to the front door, where he claims he saw Yarl pulling on the exterior storm door handle - a claim Yarl denies. Lester told officers he was "scared to death" and fired twice. He was charged Monday with first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
Today, Lester's grandson made an appearance on CNN and told Don Lemon that his grandfather is racist. His evidence? He's a "a stock American Christian male". Oh, and he watches Fox News.
“Don Lemon: Why do you say that your grandfather is racist?

Grandson of homeowner who shot Ralph Yarl: He’s just a stock American Christian male, older… that’s just how they are”— End Wokeness (@End Wokeness) 1682010453
"He's just a stock American Christian male...older, you know, that's just how they are. Conspiracies and weird random racist things they say and it doesn't make sense but, they're just scared."
Lemon pointed out that he was making a very broad generalization and asked him to elaborate further. So he did.
"I feel like a lot of people of that generation, they're caught up in this 24 hour news cycle of fear and paranoia, perpetuated by some other news stations, and he was fully into that. He'd sit and watch Fox News all day, everyday, blaring in his living room. And I think that stuff really kind of reinforces this negative view of minority groups, and leads people - doesn't necessarily lead people to be racist, but reinforces and galvanizes racist people and their beliefs."
So it doesn't MAKE anyone racist, it just galvanizes all the racists that happen to watch it. I see.
This shooting seems like it could have a racial component to it - we don't know yet. And answering a doorbell with a loaded gun does seem a tad paranoid. But it leaves a bad taste in my mouth when people publicly denounce members of their family on national television. And lumping all American Christian males together as "racist" is egregious. What could solve racial divisions better than a universal Savior who died for all mankind?
