Fixer Upper's Chip Gaines Addresses Criticism of His 'Family Values'
I don't get the criticism of Fixer Upper's Joanna and Chip Gaines, but I have an assumption. I think it's because they're too Christian and too likable. To the left, you are only allowed to be one or the other. Though preferably not Christian. It's hard to forget Preachergate from a little over a year ago. 2018 even started with criticism of them having too many kids.
Now it's their family values. USA Today ran an opinion piece claiming Chip and Joanna *squints at notes* "work too hard providing for their family for generations to come, to claim that they put family first."
The Gaines are often portrayed as the gold standard of "family-first" couples. “Nothing means more to Chip and Joanna Gaines than family!” said an article in the February issue of Life & Style.Except it isn’t so. Not if actions really do speak louder than words. I’ve always believed that we prove what we value most by where we choose to spend our time. So where do Chip and Joanna Gaines spend their time?
Since their oldest child, Drake, was born in 2005, they have also started or maintained additional ventures that include two weekend stay locations, two best-selling books and a third one on the way, a shopping center they estimated drew 70,000 people during spring break in 2017, a quarterly magazine, an online store, a restaurant, an interior design company, a blog (which Joanna still writes herself), a wallpaper line, a furniture line, a paint line, a line of designer pillows and rugs, and an exclusive line of products for Target.
They work too hard to truly say they put family first. They work too hard - for their family - to say that they put family first.
Chip's response was simple.
I'm going to go on a limb and say that, as yuge as his empire is growing, Chip Gaines doesn't miss many family dinners or little league games. The kids aren't missing out on any mommy or daddy time. That's also one of the benefits of running a media empire. As the boss, you can do those things.
Here we have yet another example of the left Christian-bashing for the sake of Christian-bashing. No scandals or unsavory remarks, just a guy who believes in the "wrong" sky-person. Sad.
