BREAKING: Supreme Court Reinstates Trump's 'Travel Ban'... Partially?

Kacie Burnett
June 26, 2017

'Member the "Trump (Don't Call It A) Travel Ban?" It's caused quite the fuss in recent months (see THOUSANDS of Refugees Flood Into U.S. After Courts Block Trump’s ‘Travel Ban’ and Majority of Americans APPROVE Trump’s ‘Travel Ban’). Well, the Supreme Court just overturned the lower courts' overturn of it, albeit only partially. Here's the scene at RESIST HQ...

"Complicated" is an understatement. It's a tediously confusing twist of events, which is known to happen when bureaucracy is involved. Hold on to your butts, Crowderheads...

The Supreme Court agreed Monday to let President Trump's immigration travel ban go into effect for some travelers, reversing the actions of lower federal courts that had put the controversial policy completely on hold.

The court also agreed to hear the case in the early fall, leaving open the chance that it could reverse Monday's verdict if challengers can prove the ban is illegal or unconstitutional.

The justices' action gives Trump a partial victory following a string of defeats from coast to coast. Some courts struck down the travel ban as a form of religious discrimination against Muslims. Others said it showed bias based on nationality and exceeded the president's authority without a firm national security justification.

Firstly, yes, we are biased against countries who tend to breed truckloads of splodey terrorists. Can we stop apologizing for this? Not sorry.

There's a lot of back and forthness going on here. But turns out the majority of Americans actually support Trump's "travel ban." Not that it matters. The courts don't have a history of supporting the will of the people or anything (see WA Supreme Court Rules That Government Can FORCE Business Owners to Violate Their Conscience and Court Now Forces Nuns to Supply... Birth Control?).

The point of the ban is to stop potential terrorists from hopping on a plane to their terrorist-vacation destination. So admittedly, this development is a step up from Hawaii and friends stomping their cloven hooves down on the idea. Apparently this approach is supposed to tighten to reins while mitigating some of the rage expected from walking leftist diapers. Fine. Not pitchforks is better than pitchforks.

But again, this is not a complete overturn. It's a partial overturn. Meaning...

AND the Supreme Court will hear arguments against this action in October 2017.

AND there are rumors of Anthony Kennedy retiring.

So yeah, your butts? Hold on to them...
