Best Day Ever: The Koch Brothers are Secret Wonder Woman Investors
Wonder Woman is one of the most politicized movies of the year, despite the actual movie being in no way political (see Hillary Shamelessly Compares Herself to Wonder Woman. Yes, Really and Of Course! Angry Liberal Film Critics are Upset ‘Wonder Woman’ isn’t Feminist Enough). You're tired of hearing about it, sure. Then you read two old, rich white guys, the Koch Brothers, were secret investors in the movie. And you break in to your happy dance.
Not just Wonder Woman, but still...grrr, Koch Brothers!
Sources say Charles G. Koch and David H. Koch — who are worth a combined $96.2 billion and wield enormous power in political circles as major backers of right-wing politicians — took a significant stake valued at tens of millions of dollars in RatPac-Dune Entertainment. Now-Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin brought the brothers in as investors as part of a $450 million deal struck in 2013 — a move that was never disclosed because RatPac-Dune is a private company.Though Mnuchin is no longer involved with the slate financing facility, having recently put his stake into a blind trust in order to avoid a conflict of interest, the Koch brothers continue to be stakeholders in such films as Wonder Woman, Dunkirk and Steven Spielberg's upcoming Ready Player One.
So yeah, total clickbaity headline by Hollywood Reporter. And I'm sure there's a lot of other nuance being left out. But instead of focusing on that, let's just revel in the leftist butthurtery.
That's totally a word. Shut up.
And this last paragraph from the THR article:
"I don't think the Kochs have spent a dime of money out of altruism. It's all toward advancing their bottom line, whether it's in politics or the private sector. I don't think it would be too cynical to believe that this was not calculated. It doesn't bode well for Hollywood," says Deal.
I don't know about you, but we're all having the best day ever. Wonder Woman was supposed to be the new "Ra-ra" feminist screed. Instead it featured a super hot Israeli actress with shaved arm pits, flowing hair, a natural love of babies, and who actually loved men. To top it all, the movie was secretly funded by two old, rich, white guys. I love this. I love this so much.
Though maybe Aaron the Intern isn't so crazy about this story, because he may have to dress up again.
